The role of soft tissue fillers in plastic surgery has continued to rapidly expand. The mainstay is hyaluronic acid based fillers placed around the lips, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. Over the last ten years, we have used a number of variations differing in concentrations, viscosity, and price. Some manufacturers supply up to six different types and more are in development phases. These fillers are temporary and slowly resolve over time. Other fillers are permanent. Although remember, permanent means permanent. Overall, we seldom use these agents for a number of “permanent” reasons.
